The Medical Community
Powell River has some of the finest facilities and health care providers of any small community in Canada. The medical community comprises 19 GPs, including 3 GP/anesthetists, and excellent specialist support locally with 2 internists, 2 general surgeons, OB/GYN, psychiatry and pediatrics plus monthly visitor specialists in ENT, respirology, ophthalmology and neurology.
Powell River General Hospital is a new, modern 33-bed facility providing services that include surgery, endoscopy, ICU, obstetrics, in-patient psychiatry, oncology, a 24/7 emergency department and diagnostic services. There are 3 full time ERPs and the rest of the emerg rota is shared by local GPs who wish to participate.
